ughhhhhh so I want to apply to some universities in my state. Specifically Northwestern and University of Chicago. Has anyone been to the college confidential forums? Well I was looking at the subforums for these schools and these people have amazinggggg profiles. Like 30 on the ACT, a millions extra curriculars, a million volunteer hours, top 5% of the class, 3.99, etc. and people are just like “ehh thats not good enough to get in” and i’m like WTF, if THAT isn’t good enough to get in, what is?! I was thinking about applying but I do not even compare to these people that want to get in. I would say i’m average, and I would prefer not to share my details because they aren’t spectular lol. sheesh. This sucks. I dont know where I want to go to college now. I’m thinking I will just go to community college and transfer to some average school. As much as I would love to attend a top school, I probably have a 1% chance of getting accepted. :( what to doo, i’m too stressed. This weekend is going by too fast too. I slept all day and I have lots of homework to do. I’m trying to write some essays for the colleges I was going to apply to..but im too lazy

  1. Don’t compare yourself to others because that’s just gonna drive you crazy, seriously. Especially when it’s the time for applying to colleges/universities, you don’t have the time to worry over what somebody else has as part of their application. Give it your best; you’ll never know whether or not they’ll accept you unless you try.

    Good luck.

And write that essay! Stop procrastinating :P

  2. Aw. You’re very welcome :)
    Keep pulling through.

  3. I think you should apply to all schools you would want to go to, not caring about how hard it is to get accepted. You might get lucky! =D

  4. That’s like me. But the thing is, a lot of those people are of a certain ethnicity–for example, ASIANS. You know how HARD it is to just be considered at a top college when you’re ASIAN!? I just hate it. I’m Top 5%, 3.96 GPA, 1750 SAT (gonna take it again in October), varsity volleyball captain, chapel worship team, school choir, yearbook editor, student council, and it’s just not good enough. Because there are a million other students out there that are the same as you and better. College is just getting too selective these days. This is a semi-rant post and reply to yours…lol sorry.

  5. You really think any of the top 100 people you admire today were those over-achievers in high school?
The world knows that, the college ad-coms know that, and now - you know that too.

Believe in yourself. If you really want to attend a school and show enough promise (essays and recommendations?), good scores would be enough.

The most famous place to find over-achievers in industry is Wall Street,, and you just saw what happened.
